Job Hopping: Is it a red flag?

Image
I saw this post on LinkedIn the other day that mentioned “job hoppers” that piqued my interest. The gist of the post was that there is a stigma around “job hoppers” because they leave jobs so frequently and hiring managers see that as a big red flag. The post went on to say that “job hoppers” aren’t necessarily bad because companies are looking out for themselves so why shouldn’t employees? The reason this post piqued my interest is because if you look at my resume, some will say that I’m a “job hopper” or assume that I can’t hold a job which is untrue. See, my first job out of college was a 3-month contract working with a small staffing company in Northern VA. Toward the end of my contract there were somethings that started happening that made me feel apprehensive about continuing my employment with the company. The first issue was with the account executive. One day I get all call from the boss, and she said that she needed me to go into the personnel files and find the file for ...

Tips for Job Seeking From A Recruiter

Image
I've been in Human Resources for the better part of a decade. Specifically, I've specialized in Talent Acquisition and I've worked with some big named companies and clients like Xerox, Capital One, Freddie Mac, and DISYS just to name a few. While each company I've worked for may have all had a different mission and industry, they all had one thing in common: the need for hiring qualified talent. That's where I come in.  My job as a Recruiter, or Talent Acquisition Specialist, is to go out every day and find the right candidates for my company or clients. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the job opportunity for several reasons. Sometimes the job requires a very specialized candidate which may take a little longer to find especially if the job isn't remote or willing to relocate candidates. Sometimes the job doesn't require a lot of technical skill and will have a higher number of qualified applicants apply very quickl...

After 100 Hours Of Playing Elden Ring, Here Are Some Tips I'd Like To Share

Image
I've logged over 100 hours in Elden Ring now. My primary character is at level 72 and my secondary character is around level 25 and while I can't claim to be an expert at the game, I will say that I've got some tips to make the game a little easier to manage and help you level up fairly quick.  Tip #1: Pick your character and focus your attribute points to the primary attack style Elden Ring offers a lot of character customization from the avatar down to the distribution of attribute points which can seem daunting if you don't fully understand your character and where to distribute your attribute points. When choosing your character, consider each characters attack style. For instance, the confessor seems to be the build that people find the easiest to play with so I'll use that as an example. The confessor class has a good balance between faith based magic and melee attacks. (Please note that I said faith based magic which is different from spell casting magic whic...

Thoughts on Cancelling Student Loan Debt

Image
When it comes to cancelling student loan debt, you're either for the idea or against the idea, and I understand both sides of the argument very well, but personally, I'm for the idea and not just because it would benefit me.  Cancelling student loan debt would definitely benefit me, but that's not the only reason I'm for it. The biggest reason I'm for it is because I know there are people out there right now that have it worse than me when it comes to student loan debt for whatever reason. Maybe they have kids and can't give them the things they want because they're still paying on student loans 10 years later. Maybe the cost of living has increased in their area and haven't seen a pay raise to compensate. Whatever the case, there are people out there right now struggling because they have this massive debt they are trying to pay back because they were told the only way to get a good job is to go to college.  While that wasn't terrible advice, the pr...

Slap! The Greatest Night in TV History

Photo: Myung Chun/Los Angeles Times/Shutterstock By now you had to have heard about Will Smith slapping the absolute piss out of Chris Rock, right? Well if you haven't I'll give you a brief recap.  Chris Rock was doing his emcee thing on stage, cracking some jokes and then when get got around to Jada Smith he said, "Jada, I love you, and I can't wait for GI Jane 2." At first Will was laughing, but then when he saw Jada wasn't too pleased, he proceeded to leave his seat, walk up to the stage, and slap Chris Rock.  When he returned to his seat he kept yelling, "Keep my wife's name outta your f*cking mouth!" to which Chris replied, "Okay, I will." and carried on like a true professional. Now, I'm not going to sit up on some high horse and pretend that it wasn't funny, but that being said, the board of the Oscars, or whatever those people are called, were none too pleased and are considering stripping Will of his Oscar for the scene...

Should Conor McGregor Get a Shot at Kamaru Usman's Belt in His Return to the Octagon?

Image
McGregor is setting his sights on returning to the UFC soon and he wants a shot at Karamu Usman's title and quite frankly I don't think he should get a shot at another title until he starts winning fights. McGregor has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and right now it just doesn't seem like a good matchup.  I know some people want to say that Conor broke his leg in his last fight and that shouldn't count, but let's be honest, the only reason he got the rematch against Dustin in the first place is because Conor is a big name. If hadn't built up his notoriety and whiskey brand, he would be just another guy fighting his way through the UFC and good on him for positioning himself so well, but at the end of the day I think he's on the decline.  His fight against an aged Cerrone was wildly unimpressive, he traded wins with Diaz, then got knocked out by Poirier, and then broke his leg in that rematch. He hasn't been that impressive and that's not even mentioning...

Why Isn't Kaep Getting a Second Chance??

Image
Todd Kirkland, AP Ever since Kaepernick found himself bounced out of the league, his name seems to get thrown around every time a team needs a new quarterback and quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing his name. It's not that I can't appreciate what he did and the message he was trying to send, but the manner and timing of it was always my issue.  Right around the time he started kneeling during the national anthem, there was trouble in San Francisco. There were some rumblings about unhappiness in the locker room because the team wasn't doing well and ultimately Kaepernick would find himself benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert. Then there was the ignorant stuff he said about Fidel Castro which upset people, most notably, Kiko Alonso. Kiko Alonso was one of the Miami linebackers at the time and he wasn't shy about how he felt about what Kaepernick said and made it known that there was "bad blood" between the two because of it.  When Kaepernick started kneeling ...
