Another Terrifier Movie?? ...But Why??

I heard they were making another Terrifier movie and to be honest, I was very shocked. I had no idea people actually liked those movies enough for there to be enough buzz calling for a 3rd installment.

If you haven't seen them movies you're not missing out on anything unless you enjoy senseless gore and plots that make no sense. I'm all for a good cheesy scary movie, but the Terrifier movies just didn't do it for me.

For anyone unaware of Art the Clown and the Terrifier movies, Art the clown made his first appearance in a short film called The 9th Circle. This short film was inspired by Dante's Inferno. Directed by Damien Leone, this adaption followed an innocent girl being caught off guard and knocked out by Art the clown to awaken in a hellish place to become a sacrifice for Satan.

Five years after this short film was produced, All Hallows' Eve was released. This would be the second appearance of Art the Clown. All Hallows' Eve follows the story of a babysitter on Halloween. The movie picks up with them returning from a night of trick or treating. One of the children discovers a mysterious blank VHS tape they beg the babysitter to let them watch. The VHS tape happens to be a copy of The 9th Circle, the short film I mentioned earlier.

The children, elated the babysitter caved and let them watch it, are creeped out by the movie and eventually the babysitter declares they've seen enough and it's time for bed. While the kids are preparing for bed she ends up watching more of the tape.

When Art the Clown shows up, she's reached her limit, however, Art is inching his way closer to the young woman. Soon Art is banging on the screen and...you'll have to watch the movies, or Google it, if you want to know what happens because I'm not here to spoil the fun for anyone, but I will say this: I wasn't impressed by the movie. I would even go so far as to say it was the best one in the series.

The next time Art makes an appearance is in the first Terrifier movie. This movie would follow the story of two college aged girls trying to make their way home from a party. Both intoxicated, they decide it's probably best to sober up before driving. They walk to a local pizza joint that happened to be open, but little did they know it would be be their last slice of pizza ever.

Art strolls into the pizza joint, sits down and starts staring at one of the girls who begins to get creeped out by the clown and rightfully so, the man is sitting there, saying nothing, and staring.  He also has this black bag with him filled with who knows what, however, one of the girls is a lot less creeped out and thinks it a joke and takes a selfie with the clown.

Art gets up, disappears to the bathroom, and at which point the owner is aware that the creepy clown is bothering his customers. He goes to the bathroom to find out what is taking the clown so long back there to discover that he has smeared shit all over the bathroom. He forcefully kicks the clown out of the restaurant and the grateful ladies are safe...for the time being.

The party goers decide they've sobered up enough and decided it's time to hit the road. While walking back to the car they discover they have a flat tire and need to call for help. One of the ladies calls her sister to come pick her up; reluctantly, she agrees because her roommate has just come back with her boyfriend and they seem a little frisky.

While waiting in the car, one of the ladies has to use the bathroom, so she walks over to a creepy building to see if there's a bathroom she can use. The young woman waiting in the car for her friend is listening to radio when she hears about grisly murders that happened a local pizza joint. Once she realizes that she met the perpetrator of those horrific murders, he's at the window smiling and attacks her.

The young woman inside the building tries to find her way out when she stumbles upon Art and after a few scenes gets herself caught. When she wakes up she finds herself restrained to a chair and Art standing there. He tries to scare her with weapons from his bag of horrors and when he gets bored with that he decided to reveal that he has her friend as well. He removes the tarp and that's when we see the naked girl chained upside down. Art standing next to her with a hacksaw, the girl starts screaming, begging and pleading that he let them go and then...

Yeah, going to have to Google it or watch it to know what happens next, however, I will say that I didn't care for the movie. It didn't really have a plot, there was no story movement or progression. If you like watching scary movies where people get killed, and/or tortured, in really messed up ways for no discernable reason other than that's what the movie is about then you just might like it. As for me, I need a little bit more story and substance. I need a reason for the violence and I'll give you an example:

The Devil's Rejects is probably one of my all-time favorite scary movies because the premise of the movie is about psychopath's that don't care about the rules of man. That's a truly scary concept because it happens in real life. These people don't need a reason for the violence because they are the reason for the violence; they woke up and chose it, whereas, Art the clown is either some supernatural force or a madman randomly going around killing people.

We'll get back to this discussion after I go over Terrifier 2.

The most recent sighting of Art the Clown was in Terrifier 2. Terrifier 2 picks up where the first Terrifier left off, so if you haven't seen the movies yet, you'll have to watch it or Google it to know what happened, but I will say that the cops did show up to "stop" Art.

Despite having gone through what he did in the first Terrifier movie, Art is somehow back on the loose and looking for his next victims. Terrifier 2 follows a single mom and her two children. One is a female high school student who has a younger brother. The children's father killed himself to which people attributed him to being crazy.

The kids are getting their Halloween costumes together and brother wants to go as Art the clown, however, his sister and mother don't think it's a good idea and creepy even and they try to talk him out of it. All this talk of Art the clown leads the older sister to have a bad dream and when she wakes up she discovers her dresser in on fire and the only thing not burned to ash is the sword her father gave her.

The brother starts seeing weird stuff as well, including a little girl that looks just like Art the clown, meanwhile, Art is killing his way towards the two kids. While in a costume shop trying to find replacement wings for the ones that burned up in the fire, the girl comes across Art who interacts with her in a very creepy manner. The guy working at the shop picks up on it and tells Art to leave her alone.

The girl gets her wings and leaves in hurry to get away from the killer clown. With her costume now complete, she goes out to a Halloween party with her friends. The boy gets into a fight with his mother and is banished to his room. The mother calls the daughter to check up on her and after a heartwarming conversation, the mother hangs up the phone not knowing it would be the last time she'd ever talk to her daughter.

At this point Art is in the house and while the mother is cleaning up a mess she thought was her son's doing, Art strikes. The boy unaware that Art is in the house comes downstairs to discover his mother's body sitting at the dinning table.

Art uses the boy's phone to lure the girl to an abandoned amusement park where the girl would ultimately begin a battle for her life and the life of her little brother and that's where I'll stop because I'm not in the business of spoiling movies.

The Terrifier movies weren't the worst movies I 've eve seen, but they were definitely boring, senseless, and predictable. The movies, to me, were about as entertaining as watching beef get ground into hamburger meat.

There was no character development or progression. There wasn't a cohesive backstory or plot to any of the characters or Art the clown. It was almost like they added elements to the story just so it would make sense to keep it going. The mystical aspect of the movie was more hokey than mystical and they could have prevented that with just a little bit of a backstory or cohesive plot. I know the movies worked on small budgets, but those things should've been addressed and I think they would've made the movies significantly better.

Bottom line is that I didn't care for the movies and I'm not going to be pressed about seeing the third one. I'm not saying I won't watch it at some point, but I'm definitely not going to go out of my way to watch it simply because the previous movies weren't that good.

I will say the gore factor and the creepiness of Art get an A+ from, conceptually, but the execution of the ideas was very lacking and I hope they addressed those issues in this third one.
