Where I Stand

I can’t make you fall for me.
I can’t make you see what I see.
I can’t make you understand
that I’d love you in ways
the men before me never even considered.
I’d learn you.
Study you.
Become fluent in the way you need to be loved.
But I can’t make you believe that.
And I can’t make you ready.
All I can do is be here.
The rest…
is on you to see.
And for as long as you want—
I’ll be around.
